Jewellery

I was lucky enough to secure a place on a local jewellery-making course a few years back, after collecting beautiful beads for many years, and finally deciding that I needed to make something with them !

My tutor was the talented Kate Swindley, who has inspired so many to delve into the wonderful world of beads.

In addition to stringing and bead weaving techniques, I have also been playing with polymer clay for many, many years. The photo above shows a variety of my work, just a few pieces, in some of my favourite colours (ivory, topaz and teal/turquoise). The necklace has been strung with a fantastic set of lampwork beads (Distant Lands) by Rachel Dawes of Earth and Fire Beads, along with a beautiful Dotty bead by lampwork artist Julie Fountain of Lush Lampwork. The necklace has additional pieces of jade, semi-precious chips and gorgeous seed beads.

The necklace is joined by a favourite polymer clay pendant, made in such a simple style with mainly jelly roll and bulls eye canes and a little touch of the skinner blend. So simple, but beautifully effective.

The two bracelets show woven beadwork at it's simplest and at a more complex level. The turquoise bracelet with silver bugle beads can be made by the absolute beginner, as proven by a class that I held in 2008. I've made about 30 of these in different colour schemes and they are all beautiful. The second bracelet was made from a favourite pattern in beading magazine and needs some knowledge about peyote stitch.

I only make jewellery for myself and my family, it is a very personal hobby, not a business !
